Airgap Redact vs Adobe Acrobat for redaction
Acrobat is a full PDF suite with a redaction tool. Airgap Redact is built only for finding and removing sensitive data quickly. Here is when each one fits.
Choose Acrobat if
- You already pay for it and need editing, signing and form tools in the same app
- You redact a few items now and then and prefer to do it by hand
- Your organization has standardized on it and requires it
Choose Airgap Redact if
- You redact the same kinds of data again and again and want it found for you
- You want to review by entity, such as every mention of one name, not page by page
- You need a verification report and a clear record of what was removed
- You want to run it in a browser with nothing to install and nothing uploaded

Using both
Many people do not have to choose. Keep Acrobat for editing and signing, and run sensitive documents through Airgap Redact first. A few tips for a smooth hand-off:
- 1Do your edits first, then redact last. Redaction should be the final change to a file.
- 2Keep the original in a secure place. The exported copy cannot be un-redacted.
- 3Open the exported file and try to select or search the redacted text as a final check.
Questions about switching
Yes. Airgap Redact runs in your browser, finds sensitive data automatically, and exports a PDF with the redacted content gone. You do not need any desktop software.
